Number one, in my opinion, is systematic chaos by dream theater.

Hmm, would have to go for Interpol's "Our Love to Admire", Radiohead's "In Rainbows" of course, "Cease to Begin" by Band of Horses and possibly the Hives' "Black and White Album", still deciding but it appears brilliant at first listen

It's been such a great for music; it'll take me forever to pick a top 10.

A top 3 is really easy, though.

Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
Boris/Michio Kurihara - Rainbow

It has been a great year for music, hasn't it? And a shout out for whoever mentioned the Animal Collective. Heard them for the first time the other day, and they're a special, weird sort of awesome all of their own.
But yes. Not sure what my favourite would be. Aussie stuff, Claire Boditch, the moon looked on.
The Waifs, Sun Dirt Water
John Butler Trio, Grand National.
and overseas.... the Arctic Monkeys' new one that I've forgotten the name of.
Kizer Chiefs, Yours truly, angry mob
Jose Gonzahlis, bugger, forgotten that one too. Something about nights.
Oh, and Katalyst, What's happening. An aussie artist with a heap of international gueststars, not sure what it counts as.
Oh, and Mark Ronson's Version. And the Beautiful Girls' Zigarettes. And I'll probably think of a heap of others as soon as I hit send.

The whole Animal Collective catalog is great. They change and progress with every new album. I'd put them up there with Radiohead as one of the most forward-thinking and exciting bands of our time. "Weird sort of awesome" is a great way to put it. They've just started to finally get major recognition and it's about time! Their live show is such a surreal experience. It's this 90+ minute virtually non-stop celebration of sound. It envelops you and hammers relentlessly into your brain's pleasure center leaving you exhausted, euphoric and dumbfounded when you walk out. Here's a recording of the show I saw curtesy of NPR. It doesn't have anywhere near the effect of seeing them live but still gives you a good idea.

The Panda Bear album I mentioned in my above post is a solo project of one of the band members; also a must-have if you like AC.

That Jose Gonzalez album is called In Our Nature. Night Falls over Kortadala is the Jens Lekman album; both artists are from the same area in Sweden and both put out stellar works this year. Jens Lekman puts on a fun show too. I've been meaning to grab that Mark Ronson. Have heard many good things.

This thread got kinda sad very quickly.

Is this the "best album of the year" thread or the "albums Clear Channel and MTV try to shove down our throats" thread? Unfortunately, it's starting to look like the latter.
